Led wildfire recovery and prioritized community support
The devastating Eaton Fire has deeply impacted so many of our friends and community members. Beginning on day one, Alton has worked with our College staff to ensure that no one in our community is left behind, and today is focused on ensuring that we rebuild stronger. This work has included:
Serving as a disaster recovery center hosting federal, state, county, and local agencies;
Establishing a distribution center to serve impacted community members;
Providing free meals to thousands of impacted families;
Establishing a new summer construction trades program for high school students to train the workforce necessary to rebuild; and
Creating a new College Corps program for PCC students to directly work with local community-based organizations that are focused on recovery.
Deepened engagement in our community
A key priority for Alton has been deepening the connections between Pasadena City College and our communities, particularly in Arcadia and Temple City. Alton has led PCC to:
Establish new partnerships in Arcadia, including supporting Downtown Arcadia, joining the Arcadia Chamber, and bringing College outreach to community events; and
Deepening engagement with Arcadia Unified School District to establish new opportunities for Arcadia students.
